Can I install mosaics on a fibreglass pool?

Yes. Glass mosaics are very common on fibreglass pools. Here is how owners use Ezarri mosaics to make a feature of the waterline and sundeck, and when they are installed.

Yes. Glass mosaics on a fibreglass pool are very common, and Ezarri glass mosaics are one of the most popular choices. More and more owners are using mosaics to make a fibreglass pool their own, with the kind of custom detail you would expect on a concrete pool.

Why add mosaics to a fibreglass pool?

Fibreglass pools are quick to install, smooth underfoot and low maintenance. The trade-off has always been that many pools from the same mould look alike. Mosaics change that. Owners are adding them to:

  • Make the waterline a feature: a band of mosaic just below the coping frames the pool and catches the light.
  • Tile the sundeck or tanning ledge: fully tiling the shallow ledge turns it into a standout feature, especially with deck jets or lighting.
  • Highlight steps, benches and swim-outs: mosaic on step edges and seats adds detail and makes them easier to see.
  • Match the wider design: choose a colour that works with the coping, paving and house.

Feature waterlines

A mosaic waterline is the most popular upgrade. It sits right where the eye goes, just under the coping, and also helps hide the scum line that can build up at water level. Glass mosaics are easy to wipe clean and won't fade in the sun.

Fully tiled sundecks

Tiling the whole sundeck or tanning ledge makes a big impact. In shallow water the mosaic colour glows, and features such as deck jets and lights can be set neatly into the tiles. Blue mosaics give a vivid, resort-style look. Greys, greens and sand tones give a more natural feel.

When are the mosaics installed?

Before the pool arrives on site (most common)

Most often, the mosaics are fitted to the fibreglass shell before it is delivered and craned into place, usually at the manufacturer's yard or by the installer before delivery. This gives easy access to every surface, controlled conditions while the adhesive cures, and a finished shell ready to drop in.

After the pool is installed

Mosaics can also be added to a pool that's already in the ground. The water level is lowered below the area being tiled, the surface is prepared, and the mosaics are fitted and left to cure before refilling. It's a popular way to upgrade an existing fibreglass pool, especially the waterline.

Mosaics on fibreglass should always be installed by an experienced tiler or pool builder, using an adhesive and grout system suited to fibreglass and to permanent immersion in pool water. Talk to your pool manufacturer or builder about the right system for your shell.

Why Ezarri works well on fibreglass

  • Patented JointPoint® system: the tiles are held together by small dots instead of a full paper or mesh backing, so around 92% of the tile back is free to bond with the adhesive. That gives maximum adhesion to the pool shell.
  • Curved edges and corners: the soft edges are comfortable underfoot and sit neatly on the curves and ledges of a fibreglass shell.
  • Made from recycled glass: 100% of the glass Ezarri uses is recycled.
  • Small 25mm tiles follow curves, steps and the rounded details of a fibreglass shell easily.
  • Colour that lasts: glass won't fade in the sun and resists pool chemicals.

Pair it with rebated coping

For the full custom look, finish the pool with rebated CMP porcelain coping. The 40mm drop face hides the curved edge of the fibreglass shell, and the mosaic waterline sits neatly beneath it. Read more in our pool coping guide.

How much mosaic do I need?

  • Waterline: measure the pool perimeter in lineal metres. The calculator on each Ezarri product page converts lineal metres for a one-sheet-high band into m².
  • Sundeck or ledge: measure the area in m², including the vertical face down to the pool floor.
  • Add 10% for cuts.
